I was going through my boxes of puzzles, and completely forgot I had this. A good, kind friend warned me it needed a lot of TLC, but since I love globe puzzles, he gave it to me. I was wondering if this was some sort of DIY kit, if it was mass produced, or if this was made by someone? It's a globe (obviously), and has a globe stand, so I assume it was manufactured. But the stickers (more like glued on paper, and cut with an x-acto knife for the slices) were all peeling off. Underneath, it appears to be a 3x3 ball.

I'm curious as to is origin, if anyone knows.

thanks,
Frank

Frank,
Now who is making who envious! I've wanted one of these for years! I think it is called an Octo cube, but I might be wrong. It turns like a 2x2 right?

Actually, it's a 3x3.

 Haven't a clue then. I've seen it on eBay Spain. No overseas shipping and I totally forgot about Mr. Calvo-who might do me a favor

Hey flambore! I have 2 like this in different sizes that appear to be made by the same company as the oversized 3x3x3 ball puzzles from long ago.

Here's a post with a few pics, including a post from Georges with some of the 3x3x3 balls these were likely made from:

And here's one of the pics.

In 1985 I got one from David Singmaster. It came in a cardboard box.
Unfortunately at some moment I decided to throw away all packagings, because I hadn't enough store place at home with three small children in the house (twenty years later I spent much much money to get the packagings back, sigh).
The paper stickers of this globe went looser and looser and I was happy to trade it before the stickers came off altogether.
For several years I am looking for such a one again.
To reply to one of your questions, it was factory made, yes.

I remember when you said this a long time ago, and that included many rare packagings.
It must have been a terrible feeling.

Staying on topic, I have exactly the same puzzle (which is quite fragile and easy to peel),
but mine has a blue base.

Wow, yours are in much better condition than mine. Even though I glued the paper stickers back into place, there are still two large gaps on either side of the globe. I don't think they're lost stickers, I think they were just not spaced properly when applied, and there were gaps.

At any rate, thanks for the info guys. It seems they're pretty rare.
