Like the title says, puzzles come and go.

My question is, "how can you determine if a puzzle will become collectible"?

The Rubik's Revolution comes to mind as a decent example. Here is the scenario. It flopped. So production won't continue, thus all that will ever be available is what is out there right now. I doubt the folks at Rubik's will ever make more. Factor in that many of the existing puzzles in circulation now are in the hands of those that could care less and will eventually end up the victim of a spring cleaning throw away party or a firecracker party. In time this puzzle will become rare, but yet.....will it become collectible?

The Revolution is just an example. I don't want to limit this thread just to the Rubik's Revolution. There are many others out there to discuss. And the Revolution may not be the best example I could use. It was just all I could think of right now......

Well, look at the Dogic, i find the Dogic to be a perfect example because (now i might be wrong), originals were made and are soon a collectable

but then Mefferts made a version of it, and it stopped, i don't think people initially thought that the Meffert's dogic would ever become i collectable, because its not an original, but it did!

so, over time it became a collectable even though people didn't think that it would.

now all dogics are rare. Mefferts is even making them and they are rare! still!

but, the dogic was well liked, and i think that is what made it a collectable

if this information is wrong, just think of this to be a hypothetical puzzle called the Bogic...and i just misspelled a few words...

Wrong example. The revolution is *not* a puzzle. It may become rare (if it does)
under the "game" or "toy" categories. Secondly, it has been super mass produced and
it can't see it becoming rare anytime in the next years.

For a good example, use the Diamond Skewb, the Dogic, the Dino Cube, or the Astrolabacus.
Each is a differerent case, and each has an interesting stroy behind it.
Even if newer versions come out, the slightly diferent old versions will always be collectable.
