Hey everyone
Does anyone know how old the magic jack and vadasz cubes are?
Someone in holland made something exacty like it (peter's black hole) and he claims it is his invertion but I think it's a ripoff from the magic jack and the vadasz cubes

Dear Robin,

Thank you for posting this topic.
But who is ¡§Someone in Holland¡¨ ? Please tell us.

Do you stand by the manufacturer of "IQube" ?
IF "YES" Then please let me know who is it and which company you are belonging to.
IF "NO" Then you are unbiased, and thank you for helping me to find the cited documents of
Magic Jack and Vadasz cubes, I had posted the same question on Twisty as well, but no one answered me.
(What are the different features of IQube, Magic Jack, & Vadasz ? - Daniel Tseng on Mar 28, 2002)

The claim is a serious matter, I had claimed my invention long ago, the right for accepting claims of inventions is
the patents office¡¦s, not ours.

I claimed ¡§This Puzzle belongs to New Zealand.¡¨

for a special reason ¡V
I am both a citizen of Republic of China (Taiwan) and a citizen of New Zealand.

I hope the manufacturer of the ¡§IQube¡¨ present itself to public first, then we can discuss the rightness and
who is the true parent of this puzzle.

Does this puzzle belong to the inventor of Magic Jack or Vadasz ?

The "inventor" is Peter Dejonghe.
He calls it Peter's black hole and it's not like iQube but almost exactly like Magic jack.
I haven't found any pics on internet of it but I have an article about it with pics. How can I put it on this site?
It is in dutch but I'm willing to translate it for you.
Do you have to be logged in for placing pictures?

Greetings Robin

Dear Robin,

Sorry for my misunderstanding.
If it was disclosed before 6 Sep. 1999, I would be very pleased to buy the translated complete specification.
Anyway, I am still appreciated if you can translate his claims for us. Then we can see if it is patentable or not.
I have gotten the patent specification of Magic Jack (US 4,432,548), the inventor is
Peter Kassan, 160 W. 16th St., New York, N.Y. 10011.
Filing date - Feb. 21, 1984.

Thanks again.

Daniel

I wonder how his patent is

Greetings Robin

Thank Robin.

Was this article published on 30 March 2002 ?
The puzzle in his hand looks like a Magic Jack, but maybe the invention is still patentable, IF he can distinguish his invention from the cited documents (International), and he filed the patent application before public disclosure.

What is the claim of his patent application ? (It should clearly set out the technical features of his invention and relate closely to the description of the invention.)

Daniel

Here are a couple of references to the Iqube puzzle from 1995 in the cube-lovers mailing list:

http://www.math.rwth-aachen.de/~Martin.Schoenert/Cube-Lovers/Yerry_Felix__Re__little_keychain_cubes_and_IQubes.html

http://www.math.rwth-aachen.de/~Martin.Schoenert/Cube-Lovers/Robert_Munafo__Re__IQubes.html

Apparently, there was even a review of the Iqube written in "Games & Puzzles" magazine shortly before these postings.

Here is also a reference concerning the Magic Jack puzzle. It was made by Fun Tech.

http://www.math.rwth-aachen.de/~Martin.Schoenert/Cube-Lovers/[unknown_name]__magic_jack.html

I hope this helps to clear some things up.
Doug.

Thanks for that translation work, Robin. This is an interesting topic. There seem to be at least three different claims to the same idea.

FYI, next time you want to insert a picture, you have to upload it somewhere, the just paste the URL to it right in your message. You can test it out by using the Preview button at the bottom of the new message page.
