Took me a month on and off but I finally finished the white version of the magic octahedron. I have a trade offer but if it doesn't go through, I will probably put it on ebay to try and recoop polyurethane and shipping costs.

These are only some really quick pics. I'll have some better quailty ones hopefully today sometime.

That is pretty freakin' cool looking first of all.
My question is what is the mechanism that this is based off of?
I can sort of see it being a standard rubik's cube, but I can't tell for sure.
thanks

And so are a lot of you guys now that I'm handing out compliments. It's kind of inspirational and depressing at the same time! I'm such a newbie!

I have no idea how could you bring yourself to even think of trading/selling it! Do you already have another one, or what?

Well done, Wayne.

Sandy

Is this puzzle the same size as an original octahedron or is this puzzle larger?

Wayne,

This is a regular octahedron, that you made in white?

I've heard that it is possible to make one from a standard 3x3x3 but I haven't bothered to visualise it. The core is a block and there are six caps that screw into each side of the block.

The "edge" pieces are very sinilar to those in a pyraminx. The tips snap onto the outside of the caps. I'll post some pics of that. Actually, you see some parts in the plastics article.

This is the original or "proper" octahedron size. Not the larger customised white one.

Yeah it's a killer. Tyler's right though, I can make more and I do intend to. They just take so darn long to make, and the stickers too.

But no, I won't have one for myself anymore for a while, which is a shame.

It's a perfectly legitimate way to recoup your costs. I am sure it will sell for a reasonable amount. Just be open and honest about what you have there, although judging you I seriously doubt that will be a problem.

If you build it they will come. It's not enough that it's a magic octahedron. It's white to boot and it looks really awesome.
