Two interesting puzzles I haven't seen before:

This one looks like a Rubik's Shell variant where the channels can twist relative to one another.

And this one is a board game where you use a Pyraminx instead of dice to determine how you move, replacing luck with skill.

I've got a copy of the good news-bad news game. It is an interesting relic of its time. Some of the cards are downright offensive though -- I remember things like AIDS jokes among them. The puzzle, as you note, is just a tool to move the game along.
