Did people just forget about this or what? I thought the Smart Alex was much more rare than the price.

So what is one of these things worth roughly? Didn't the last one go for much more?

Sandy

Ant it's all mine, haha! Thanks Sandy for keeping schtumm until it was over! This one is missing a sticker though.

I'm still the highest bidder on another one, but I doubt I will be for long....

This Smart Alex sold for $113 less than a month ago

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1710432317

I think I paid about $55 for mine and it came new with the box. Now that Jaap has one I can't wait for him to post a solution on his website.

The Smart Alex Patent is US5116052 - it's pretty simple. It was on my "make one out of wood" list before I won one on Ebay a while back (for just $31, on Jan 7th)

Hell. If I remembered that (and I do now that you pointed it out Dodd!), I wouldn't have tried for the last second snipe! I just missed my $35 bid by a fraction of a second.

Oh well. I've gotten more than my share of deals lately. (That under $5 Master Magic was in primo shape, and has been confusing the hell out of me for two days now.)

Jaap: Are you going to try talking the seller into keeping the rest of the crap for a discount on your bid? Maybe you can get it for a lot less. That was my plan, anyhow!

If I ever borrow my buddy's digital camera again, I'll be sure to take a picture of one in pieces.

Honestly the puzzle doesn't do much for me. Its creation isn't very innovative in any way except for the conditions it was created under.

If you like Smart Alex or Tricky Disky, you'll probably also like the similar NetBlock's UFO. It's mechanism is a little more complicated than the formerly mentioned puzzles. Here is a review that I wrote for it:

http://www.zeta.org.au/~sausage/twistymegasite/ufo-review.html

And, here is what it looks like on Meffert's site:

http://mefferts.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MPOS&Product_Code=SKJP08&Category_Code=NBP

It's probably the best Twisty Puzzle you can buy for $5. I'm not sure how Meffert's makes money on this with the free airmail shipping.

Doug.

No, I can't be bothered. I'd like to see it first before I decide it's crap.
