 Post subject: Even ordered megaminxs
PostPosted: Mon Mar 25, 2002 2:46 am
I've been thinking, and I'm not sure if it is posible to make an even ordered megaminx. As has been said an impossiball is an order two megaminx (I don't have one so I cant look at how it works) and I could make its equivalent easily. But if i were to try to build that up I think it would block its self, an easy way to see this is to look at tylers order 4 picture, the lines aren't straght, so it would be unable to trun useing a conventional system.
Is there any kind of unconvetiopnal system that can be used to make one or is it simply impossible?

the impossiball is unconventional. its lines arent all "straight" either. however it has a really wierd mechanism made of some kind of rubber so it kind of stretches when you turn it. i think there is a picture at the puzzle museum. i imagine this is what tyler meant when he drew the picture of the order 4 megaminx with nonstraight lines. i would prefer an order 5...

I would prefer a 5th oder as well, but I see no reason why there shouldn't be a 4th order as well. I think it would be nice to have a a set of many diffrent orders like there is with the cube.

The lines are not straight, because megaminx is face turning, and not deep cut. No mechanical reasoning. Just that for the face to turn, and to be pentagonal, it must have non straight lines
