Strange... this looks like a tetraminx with one pyraminx tip on it. And the angles don't look quite right - almost like a Octahedron or Christoph's Jewel with one trivial tip.

Is this one of Meffert's new puzzles or is it just a strange angle on the photograph?

i dont know. its a little confusing. the package obviously has been opened as mefferts puzzles are always solved when they are delivered (arent they?) so the seller could have played with it and mucked around with it. even broke it? but the angles definitely suggest that the corner on the top could be from an octahedron. although they dont really seem wuite right for either if you ask me. has anyone actually bought one of these new from mefferts with the package shown here? (mefferts usually just send me the puzzle in a cardborard box) maybe its part of the packaging??

The angle was just confusing. The "front" face (4 yellow 1 green 1 orange triangles arranged in a hexagon) is angled back at the bottom rather than forwards. The orange "tip" at the top is really one of the small faces of the tetraminx, and the green/blue/blue side is half of an adjacent side; the paper packaging insert bisects the puzzle.

It is definately a tetraminx with a trivial tip like on a pyraminx. It's kind of cute. Is this one of Meffert's new puzzles? I guess I was hoping for something a little more different from the existing product line.

good work pointing that out. it did look confusing at first though... to agree with carter, im glad it isnt one of mr mefferts 'surprises'

There is no trivial tip. This is exactly the normal tetraminx puzzle. You are only seeing half of the puzzle through the cardboard divider which does make it appear more confusing.
