What's the best 2x2x2 mechanism out there, in terms of overall simplicity (fewest unique components), turning, corner cutting, stability, etc? Is there a picture of this somewhere?

Challenge: Can you design a better one? :D

Best 2x2 mechs for speed/corner cutting: Witeden 2x2 v1 (the one that has bigger internal mech parts), Dayan 2x2 (though a bigger mech to fit normal cores would be nice), Vcube-2, and [removed]/[removed]/variant of the Eastsheen 2x2 that have screws and springs.

Best 2x2 mech for simple features and few unique parts: Witeden 2x2 v1, Dayan 2x2 but shapes are complex, Rubik's 2x2 (the new one that has a rubik's 4x4 core).

Best 2x2 for stability: Rubik's 2x2 with tabs (old one), Quarks 2x2 if that counts, Eastsheen 2x2 without screws but instead those plastic clips.

Can we design a better one: Is that a joking question? (I know it's not, but I'll give it a go)

I really think that many times engineers over think things and make them much more complicated than they need to be. I think that the Rubik's 4x4 has a great mechanism if they would just make the overlaps larger and round everything. There's no need to make the 2x2 inside of the 4x4 actually move like the mf8 Dayan 4x4 does. I have both a Rubik's and an mf8 Dayan 4x4, and the only thing the mf8 Dayan 4x4 has that is better is corner cutting. The Rubik's 4x4 is much more stable, smoother, easy to turn, and lasts longer.

I'm not sure if the Rubik's 2x2 is designed the same as the 4x4, but if it is, I think that it has the best design if they would round everything and increase the size of the overlaps to compensate and keep pops away.

I do have a new 2x2x2 design that will be making its way into a few upcoming puzzles over the next few months. I tried to keep it simple and easy to assemble as well as make it easy to incorporate the core mechanism into other 2x2x2 based puzzles. The prototype worked really well, so I am pretty sure the production version will too.

No pictures at the moment... Need to wait for the samples to arrive...
