Hey twisty puzzlers,

Someone on Shapeways has asked for some instructions on how to assemble the Radio Cube 3. It's a bit tough to describe in words, so a video would be ideal. I would post a video of myself assembling it, but I don't actually have my own copy at the moment. :P

I am offering a $25 Shapeways gift card to the first person willing to make a good tutorial video explaining how to assemble this puzzle, from counting the parts to putting in the last piece, possibly even some tips on breaking it in.

Thank you!

-Eitan

I just checked and I never made a video of assembling it, but I did take a lot of photos. In fact, there is another post by me here somewhere with some photos, but perhaps not quite enough to figure it out. I could certainly make an assembly video, the only catch is that mine is stickered and already broken in, so I would have to address those differences. I can do it, but if you find someone who can do an ideal assembly fresh out of the box, let me know.

Mine isn't assembled. I can't remember what state all of the parts are in but assuming I don't have them in grit I'll make the video.

Thanks for the responses! Sounds like Pete and Brandon are both good candidates for the job. The gift card will go to whoever posts their video first (just to be fair).

Brandon's would be a better choice as his is not stickered.

Hello everyone,

I would like to repeat this request, as there are Shapeways customers clamoring for advice on how to build the puzzles they ordered. Remember, there is a $25 Shapeways gift card available for the first person to post a good tutorial of how to assemble the Radio Cube 3.

Also, I would be willing to provide a similar reward for someone willing to do the same for the Master Helicopter Cube.

Thanks!

If you'll recall, when I ordered a print of the puzzle it was missing several pieces including the core. I can't find the replacement pieces and now I can't even remember if I actually ordered them. I'm searching through my Shapeways emails and orders now. If I ordered them and can find them I'll be able to do a video tonight :-)

Edit: Goes to show how crappy my memory is. I did work with Shapeways to get replacements ordered. Now I just need to find the parts and join them with their brethren.

Edit 2: Replacement parts located!

Edit 3: Assembly video taken (in multiple parts). Due to a camera audio bug I have to extract out the audio from the videos, remove the left-audio track and make the right one the mono track. Then I have to upload the videos and then assemble them into one with Youtube.

Alright, without further ado, I present:
How to Assemble Eitan's Radio Cube 3 Part 1
and
How to Assemble Eitan's Radio Cube 3 Part 2

The puzzle isn't particularly hard to figure out how to assemble but the chiral pieces are a bit tricky.

The video tries to be generic enough that it can apply to most twisty puzzles. For example, I explain how to use the symmetry of the mechanism on the pieces to figure out what type of piece they are and how many pieces there should be. I also show how to use the curvature of the mechanism to estimate how deep into the puzzle a piece goes.
