I have an idea for a mod, but it would require a ball core. Old Rubik's brand 4x4x4's have this, so I can easily make a 4x4x4 version. I know the old Rubik's brand 5x5x5's don't. Everything else seems to use the Eastsheen or V-Cube mech. Do any 5x5x5's have a ball core?

Carl's new design for the Real 5x5x5 essentially has a ball core. I don't suppose that helps you for a mod though.
