Well, I managed to inavertently make my Dogic fall apart.

So instead of lamenting the sudden disaster I decided to take some pics and upload the mess to my website.

Hopefully nobody else will get the sudden curiosity to take this thing apart if it's not necessary.

I think the internal mechanism is marvelous in any case. Very ingenious. I wonder if these things were hand assembled, and if so, how the heck did they keep a high profit margin.

Luckily for me, my Dogic was very close to solved and VERY luckily for me, the pieces that slid off were already 100% solved. I lucked out big Time. Once I finish reassembling it I should be able to solve it without completely tearing it down. Whew.

there is a 1 in 6 chance that any random position can be solved on a dogic. if you were to ever pull apart an ultimate skewb you wouldnt be so lucky... depending on the damage done to one of those, you could be looking at odds of 1 in a few hundred (or more maybe- its a bit hard to calculate with that thing... )

Your question about the profit margin is interesting. I don't think there is any way for a manufacturer to make a profit with these puzzles. I think that is why they are so rare.

Can you describe what you were doing with the puzzle when the pieces slid off? Maybe there is something we should avoid doing with these puzzles.

I posted about it on an earlier thread about the Dogic. Out of curiosity I figured I could remove one screw and remove the pieces from the minor slice without disburbing the entire puzzle.

As it turned out, the minor slice rotating piece also held the major slice rotating piece in place, and I had the puzzle at a slight angle. So when the screw popped free, the entire facing as you see it slid off the puzzle and clattered on the desk and on the floor.

I ended up searching my floor for missing pieces, took everything and put it on top of a keyboard box. Then I figured I might as well take pics for posterity.
