I just bought a Dayan Jewel. It came unstickered with 2 different sets of stickers for the square sides. Can anyone tell me what the symbols mean on the stickers?
A couple people have responded outside the forum with the desired info. I no longer need an answer.

Hi Calvin,
Thanks for the reply, I am interested in these cultural things too. What is the significance of the relationship between the plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum in Chinese culture? Or is it just decoration?
Cheers, Burgo.

A quick google search or two on those plants brought me to this Wikipedia Article.

Cheers, Burgo. That is good question. These are Chinese literature. They are called "Four Gentlemen", also called the Four Noble Ones, in Chinese art refers to four plants: the orchid, the bamboo, the chrysanthemum, and the plum blossom. The term compares the four plants to Confucianist junzi, or "gentlemen". They are most typically depicted in traditional ink and wash painting and they belong to the category of bird-and-flower painting in Chinese art. source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_GentlemenApart from that, Auspicious & Fengshui Meaning Chinese Four Gentlemen Painting: Themes: plum blossom, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum Painting are known as the "Four Gentlemen" painting in China, 四君子. Their qualities are: fortitude, fragrance, tenacious and indifference respectively. Chinese people often use these four kinds of flowers to express their ideals, and they are the most common themes in the Chinese poems and paintings.

Jeffery Mewtamer wrote: A quick google search or two on those plants brought me to this Wikipedia Article. Yes, that is the "Four Gentlemen". More indepth meaning as below, source : http://baike.baidu.com/view/134045.html?wtp=ttBriefly say, the four gentlements are representing 4 different respectful gentlement characters, These are Chinese literature and poems, hard to translate in English. It is very apprecaited that any tp friends can do it for me. PS: Maybe our University English teacher, Rox, can help. ^^

Chinese explanations of the Four Gerntlement Characters as below,
PS: again, it is good if any tp friends can help to translate.
