Actually, I hope the pieces have less sharp edges, because the corners on my Helicopter actually cut up the stickers when I jumbled it. :(

I would get one in a heartbeat if I didn't already have the Curvy Copter Plus. It's so great to see a wonderful puzzle like this being mass-produced.

I tried making a Helicopter Mezon but botched the directions. I was left with only one free edge that I could turn. That was about 5 minutes before I took it apart

Well, now I understand the mechanism properly :D
I remember when it took me quite a while to achieve the Mezon state (albeit with the colors fully scrambled). When I finally achieved the victorious position, I laid the cube to rest for a while. Sadly, I never got around to posting it on Twsitypuzzles, so someone else got the credit for first discovering it. I would love to see what the curvy copter would look like in this position. :solved:

Nice, but how did you do that?

I just received my Curvy Copters from Meffert's in black and white and I must say these are totally awesome!! :D These are super smooth turning with my black one a little bit smoother than the white. An excellent buy(especially with the reasonable price) and highly recommended to anyone and everyone.

1) Mass production puzzles aren't printed.
2) Uwe didn't produce these, he bought a bulk amount and restickered them.

If you really want to and neither Of them have it you can buy the KO and pay TomZ the difference.

Thank you, I hope so too.

And I actually thought about my choice of words, but I realized that I wasn't quite sure what the verb for mass-producing plastic shapes was. Molding? Injecting? Producing? Creating? Pouring? Filling? So I went with the universal "printing" which made the most sense. Yes, I know cheaply 3-D printing something to mass-produce it is unfeasible.

thomasbomb wrote:

What, the $2 I would save by getting the KO? Since the prices are so similar, I'll definitely tell my family "if it has "IQ MAGIC CUBE" in the title, don't buy it" and hope that they get more made or one will show up on eBay.

I'm not sure this is the choice most respectful to TomZ.
By buying from an authorized source you are sending the message to the company that they will get business if they go through the channel that respects TomZ's IP.
By buying from them directly you reassure them there is reason to continue disrespecting TomZ's IP.

You may well get the same exact puzzle, and TomZ may well get the same money, but the message you are sending is quite different. Also, for consideration, Meffert gets no cut for his work to help protect TomZ.

I got my Mefferts white one today and all I can say is it is AWESOME.
Currently my favourite puzzle, I taught myself the orientation of the centre edges and have solved it multiple times.

I'll upload an unboxing video and solve video tonight.

I have to say that I really sympathise with Tomz, I always wanted this puzzle but to get it through a KO company is really sad.

This is off topic, but to answer your question: Certainly it is worth to get a Crazy Tetrahedron, if it is a real "Crazy". The "Regular" is solved as a Skewb Ultimate. So, it is no new challenge, if you have got that one. Try at least Jupiter or Mercury. I have got the three: Regular, Jupiter and Mercury and I regret the "Regular" a bit.

Crazy, yes, but I think you should get the full circle one, it's very hard and it's... full circle ^^

I remember the feeling of finding out a circle cube solves like a super cube. Biggest let down I ever had. :(

You should really consider asking Uwe Meffert about the mass production of the unbandaged edges, I think there's a lot of potential, and it's only two more pieces to mass produce :)

Today, I have received my Curvy Copter from Meffert‘s. (11 days between order and delivery, I guess this is the second fastest time ever! :) )
I have compared it with my Shapeways puzzle. The size is the same within a fraction of a millimeter. What a coincidence.
The turning is really good, indeed. :D The original turns outstanding and the mass-produced brother (sister?) is close.
So, do not miss this. I hope that Meffert’s will restock it, but it is still legitimately available here http://www.hknowstore.com/locale/en-US/ ... 3fa5b6c1e3 With Tom’s signature! :)
EDIT:
Here is a picture of my two Curvy Copters
Image
The signed is the new one.

I just got mine today to and I ordered it on first day. Really good turn around on my order.

I got the one in white and it is a fantastic puzzle that turns like a dream. The funny thing though - I guess I blame it on myself for not following this puzzle too closely is I was surprised when I found out could partially jumble it. Boy that thing gets screwed up quick!

Very nice puzzle added to my collection. I would agree with Konrad that this is one you need to own.

Mine came on the 10th day, absolutely a record (I'm still expecting my circleminx ordered on 23/12, I'm patient..)

Turning is excellent apart from an occasional centre cap pop.
I simply had to make this pattern

Thank you Tom and Uwe!

Got mine today, ordered on the 25th. That makes 10-11 days. :D :D Happy me! The pieces are REALLY in there, they have more of a 'lip' to hold them in then the regular helicopter cube does (on the corners, at least) and I'm loosening all the screws a bit.

The only problem I've had so far is that the caps are coming off while I'm playing with it, and they are kind of a pain to put back on. I think a few small TINY drops of super glue right on the tips of the corners would work, I could always break a small amount with a razor if I needed to get the caps off.

Also, the screws are liable to strip, apparently. D: Gotta be careful if you're loosening it. If you have a flathead thin (or wide) enough to fit, use it. The philips head I used was just stripping it. :D I'm going to try to figure out some patterns now :D Also, going to try to model it so I can try to make pieces for a Curvy Copter Plus. :D

My screws are way too loose as I'm able to make "illegal" moves while jumbling.

I have had this problem twice, so far. If it occurs again, I'll try Blu Tack first before I go for superglue.

I think that's more to do with the round shape not blocking them fully. I've loosened them for now so that when I mess it up to much, I can pop it apart and put it back together without taking anything off. Until I'm done messing around with patterns, they'll be loosened. Afterwards, I'll put it back, as it came adjusted well, IMO.

Some moves which should be blocked by the jumbling I can push through because the blocking pieces are so loose that they will pull against the springs and move out of the way allowing an "illegal" move.

The more I play with this the more I realize that this puzzle is good, but not great. The plastics feels soft/cheap, the springs are weak, and there is some kind of oily lube in the core. I can’t help but wonder how much better it would have been if Meffert’s had the opportunity to produce it instead of KOC jumping the gun. It would have been nice to have the superior Meffert’s stickers too.

This isn’t the first time this has happened, but I hope it is the last.

I completely disagree, my puzzle wasn't lubed and the puzzle wasn't loose or tight it is pretty much perfect, also the caps on mine don't come off.
To be honest the last Mefferts puzzles that I have bought, the Professor Pyraminx, was terrible as it was far too loose.

I beg to disagree with both of you :) :
@Volitar Prime: My (Meffert's) Curvy Copter is pretty close to perfect. (i.e. not far from the original)
@Robert111: My Professor Pyraminx is pretty good as well.

I'm still debating on whether to get a Shapeway's Curvy Copter as well. I cannot wait for the mass produced version to arrive (hopefully tonight!), but I love Shapeway's puzzle for many reasons.

Konrad, did you assemble the Shapeway's version yourself? If so, is it easy, hard?

Either way, still on my top ten list of favorite puzzles of all time.

Chris

No, Tom has assembled and stickered it. I have never seen the mechanism, but I assume it is not so hard to assemble. Please, ask Tom directly, when he is back from vacation.

Seeing as I own a Curvy Copter II, and in that contains a Curvy Copter, I can tell you it isn't that hard to assemble the Curvy Copter. More or less like a Helicopter Cube. The last few pieces on the version two are where the problems come!

The reason why you had trouble assembling the CCII is because you're too thick to assemble a rex cube ;)

No. Apparently I'm one of the few who dared to disassemble the puzzle. I don't struggle with it that bad, but it's making sure the last center piece stays where it should. The puzzle's mechanism is 1,000,000 times more stable and secure than the Rex Cube. You can loosen three centers to the point the screws come out and it still doesn't come apart.
