Are these just pillowed skewbs using the void skewb mech?

Wow! I have to buy them! Weird center pattern to them though.

Yea that's why I wasn't sure if they were just skewbs. Maybe because of the pillowing they had to cut the stickers into multiple pieces to get to lay flat on the puzzle?

At first I thought is was to make the void look larger but I agree with PepeLopez07.

(you all won't get one of these. It was an oops  )

the stickering is done that way because of the curved surfaces. The stickers will bubble on the big centers if it is not put into pieces. Many of the curved pyramids from the chinese companies have this problem. To stop it, Meffert's went with cuts in the middle.

Yours should look nicer than mine. I stickered them yesterday on the ferry going to Macau. Obviously I attached some of them when the ferry lurched   (good cure for fear of sea travel-stickering cubes!) Not good for pretty looking stickers though.

Did you just throw the other centers on there? or do they all have different types of centers.

I did nothing. Uwe was pulling out samples and we found it like that. I took that one for me, and simply stickered it. Basically the centers are interchangeable, and someone in the factory changed one center on the holey pillowed skewb when putting them together. Nothing you couldn't do yourself, but I thought it so funny. Uwe graciously handed it over. LOL One of a kind, and this cube told him he needs to make sure of quality control. Mind, these were samples of first runs, so mistakes are common.

I have another cube on my desk that is a first run sample and there is a bit of white in one of the pieces. Previous plastic that was in the mold. First run puzzles don't turn as smoothly, don't have perfect coloring, and often have flaws that need to be reworked later on. I enjoy seeing and playing with them, because of a couple of reasons.

1) I'm first! HA! (or close enough)
2) It thrills me to spot something that might not have been caught by others. like an extra bit of flash that might interfere with the mechanism as an example.
3) When people are in a good mood and feeling generous, I get to add a unique piece to my collection. These are usually destroyed. So I really do have some one of a kind pieces.
4) I know that when the puzzles are put into the market they are as near perfect as they can be. The quality control behind some companies is much more than you can imagine.

I know of one puzzle coming out soon that has gone through 4 mold tests and tweaking, only to have the molds destroyed and start over. It just didn't work. And that my friends is the difference between good companies and KO companies.

NEVER!!!

I have to keep those cats bagged up

Seriously, if I did give away these things, I would loose a lot of good friends. Something I'm not willing to do intentionally. The friendships I've built are more precious to me than the puzzles I have. I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize that.

You all just have to wait patiently for new toys.

I might get a pillowed Holey Skewb as I don't have a normal Holey Skewb, and the sticker pattern looks cool on that. :D I don't think that the sticker pattern looks nice on the pillowed Skewb, it just looks strange (although I know that it's necessary). :?

Couldn't have Uwe made stickers that then went over the gaps, so it looked like one sticker? If he used thin stickers, it could work. When I get my set, I'll probably do that.

He tried many different variations. You have to remember, these are being put on in a factory by workers. Not one at a time by the buyer. I know the hairdryer trick might work, but that would raise the cost substantially.

this is the best solution. Although, you might ask cubesmith.

I think I'll ask Cubesmith. I personally do not like the pattern. Another technique maybe is to have made dyed tiles for it. then in the pieces make a hole that the tile would fit in. Of course, that would be extremely expensive.

I just don't see the appeal in these. I guess I'm just not a fan of pillowed puzzles unless the pillowing is necessary.

But then again I didn't really see the appeal in the Holey Skewb in the first place.

I wasn't aware how these would be stickered. I believe a 2x2x2 pattern on each side would look nicer. It would break the large areas into four plus it would make it a super Skewb. It would look like a pillowed Helicopter Cube.
