I have a few questions, and you folks have the answers I'm sure:
What 12 colors are on the Meffert's Tiled version?
How well does the vinyl hold up on Meffert's Sticker version? Are the decals so small that they slide off easily?
Which is better: Meffert's mechanism or the original Tomy? I am not a speed solver, I just don't want something that feels loose (like my Meffert's Skewb did).
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason, I cant answer all your questions but some I can. On my Mefferts tiled megaminx, the 12 colours are (in pairs of opposite face colours) Dark blue and light blue Dark green and light green Purple and white Brown and orange(sort of very light browny) Dark pink and yellow Light pink and red It looks really cool. Email me if you want more specific configuration information. The mechanism is quite good although I have nothing else to compare it to. The faces rotate very easily - they rotated well when it first came and they still work just as good as ever (about half a year old). Definitely not loose at all. Hope this helps, James.

I forgot to mention, about 3 or 4 the tiles have become loose at different times. But that was fine - a tiny drop of glue put them back to normal and I havent had that problem any more. I guess if you are one of these people who can make their own crazy puzzles this wont be too difficult.

When you replace the Megaminx tiles, what kind of glue works best? (Crazy Glue? Epoxy? Contact cement?)
What is the best type of glue for vinyl stickers? (I realize that this topic has been covered before. I am interested in learning more about it.)

I know noone has ever really said to use superglue, but this works best for me. I recently bought 150 tiny tiles from Mefferts and touched up my 5x5x5 cube with them. Painstaking work but it looks super now! Actually Ive used different types of glue for different things and they all seem to work. As long as its fairly strong, I think it will work.

This is my fave glue of choice (used on a megaminx ok), but as a WARNING: Contact cement contains a chemical that will eat some Thermo plastics.
If you try to use it, test on the inside hollow of a piece first. Some puzzles affected are:
Alexander's star 26-sided 3x3x3 variation (Original Toys brand)
Megaminx should be ok, but if the puzzle was run with a different plastic, there could be a risk. In fact you should always use the hollow to test any glue.

Wayne,
What does this puzzle look like? I don't think I remember a 26-sided variation of the 3x3x3. Are they still sold today? Any tips on where to find them?
Thanx, Doug

You're right. I even have one. I guess 26 sides just sounds like a lot for a 3x3x3 variation! Each cubie exposes itself as an individual side. I guess I was envisioning something wild like the icosohedron Dogic.
Thanx, Doug.

Yeah I've never liked it being called that. It's a deceptive name and potentially, a whole host of puzzles could claim to be multiple sided using the same concept.
Maybe it should just be called a "diamond cube". It's a name that kind of stuck.

From the picture, it looks like the whole red layer in the middle needs to be turned a bit so the "longer" pieces match up with the "corner" pieces.

Yeah, it's not my photo and the slice does need turning. I'll be putting my actual photo up instead. Besides, I like my colours better anyway.
