How do you take apart a vintage Alexander’s Star without breaking the pieces? Keep in mind that many of these are old and the plastic is brittle.

Years ago I disassembled one with the help of this picture from the old Twisty mega site. The Museum has a copy of this same picture, but at a reduced size so it loses a few details.



It doesn't get much easier after removing the first piece.

Don't do it!!! It is extremely fragile. The plastic breaks very easily. Actually it' s also boring to solve. I recently threw my old specimen in the garbage bin

The reason I started this topic is because I wish to replace some damaged pieces with some from a different puzzle (a puzzle that is already missing a piece).

I'm going to have to work out how to solve both my 12 and 20 colour versions (http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=19030&start=0) then if I can't take them apart and reassemble them solved!
