After reimplementing the Polo Gear Cube the inventor applied the concept to a 1x2x2. It allows the turns of a traditional 1x2x2, and a gear turn. The outer four gears can be turned in steps of 90� (all at once; see image 3) which also turns the large circles by one segment or 22.5� (both).
The teeth of the segments are coloured according to adjacent sides of the 1x2x2 to make the segments distinguishable. This and the gear transforms a 1x2x2 (the most trivial puzzle except from a 1x1xNs) into a puzzle worth solving.
