A standard 3x3x3 with four truncated corners.
During the years this community gathered on the creators website this puzzle was on the websites banner. Maybe this helped to make invention to become on of the most popular shape variants of any hexahedral puzzle.
This puzzle marks the midpoint to the truncated Trajbers octahedron and it marks the first step to built a mastermorphix by hand. One had to "delete" the six sides remaining from the original puzzle by extending them to get the tetrahedral shape.
It changes its shape.
Back in the 1980s and 1990s Jean-Claude Constantins custom built a similar variant he named "Pyracube". Its cuts were not as deep as here. They were as deep as in the cuboctahedron.
The shape of this puzzle closely matches the chamfered tetrahedron.
