This puzzle is, basically, a very specially unbandaged Curvy Copter III. It makes all the standard 180 degree edge turns, but the unbandaging now allows for turns in all possible increments of 45�.
Once these turns are started, there will now be four edges which can always make these turns, while the other eight edges become blocked and cannot turn (acting like a pseudo-doctrinaire puzzle). Once the corners have restored their cubic shape, however, all turns become active again, and you're free to do more scrambling.
Here is another quite interesting way to think about this puzzle: consider the Dayan Gem VI, and take four of the outermost 8-fold face turning layers that form two opposite pairs. Now duplicate these cuts three times onto the three equators of four parallel edges found on a cube, and well, you get this monster of a geometry.
