A bandaged Cross Cube 2x2x2 heavily disguised as a pyraminx.
The core of this puzzle is a cross cube 2x2x2. On all six sides pairs of two pieces are glued to one another and the frame like pieces are attached. The resulting puzzle has twelve pieces.
The tetrahedron is not the solved position from the viewpoint of the mechanism. One has to turn every edge by 45° to get a position when the deep cuts can be utilized. See image 2 for an example.
