This is a custom 2x2x3 welded and fabricated out of 1/8" stainless steel, nuts and bolts.

The inventor wanted to practice welding small, delicate things at work and so came up with this project.

He cut bolts and tiny iron pipes in half, welded them together, milled a hole through them, and put a tiny screw and nut in to make the innermost mechanism. He then cut, milled, and welded 1/8" wall cubic stainless steel tubing to make the cubes. He milled holes and slots into the innermost cubes and cut and welded 1/4 pieces of bolts to the outermost cubes to make "hooks" to hold them in place while allowing them to slide in all directions. Then he grounded, sanded, and cleaned everything. Next he lubricated and assembled the cubes, supergluing the innermost screw in place. Then he used small but powerful magnets to hold the metal lids firmly in place. Finally, he cut down 6 colours of extra wide electrical tape and stickered the outside.
Turns well considering there are numerous eyeballed and hand fabricated metal edges sliding against each other. It turns out to be much heavier than the inventor expected.
