A unique dodecahedral puzzle.
This puzzle consists of a 12-armed spider. Each twist turns five of the twenty triangular pieces about the axis of one of the arms.
Images 1-2, 10 show the 1997-version from Mefferts. Please note the tiles with pale orange.
Images 3-4, 6-9 show the 1982-version from Milton Bradly's. Please note the white face on the top right.
Image 5 shows both versions.
In 1984 a german puzzle catalogue listed this puzzle under the name "Zauberkugel" with an original price of 19.50 Deutsche Mark.
An article from a german newspaper of 1981 was found which indicates that Wolfgang Küppers and Eckard Zimmermann have invented it. Wolfgang Küppers received a patent (DE3128514) but with a slightly different mechanism as was used in the popular versions. It seems there may have been a smaller German production run before Milton Bradley got involved.
