The cuboctahedron is an archimedean solid halfway between a cube and an octahedron.
The first known sample was made by Jürgen Brandt and finished no later than 2003 although it could have happened earlier. Another attempt to implement this shape with a 5x5x5 was made by Tony Fisher in 2005 but that one has deeper cuts.
