After its first presentation the hexagonal dipyramid quickly became one of the most popular shape transformations. Since the first sample made from a 3x3x3 almost every hexahedral puzzle has been truncated into this shape. This is valid even for puzzles that started their life as shape transformations, too.
In this case the original puzzle was a mass produced Golden Cube which is a shape transformation of a Skewb.
