The solid is the first stellation of icosidodecahedron also known as compound of dodecahedron and icosahedron. The edge length of the outer pentagons is identical to the edge length of the ultimate skewb it was made from. The name was choosen to make is similar to the Skewbstar.
Image 2 shows the puzzle together with its "ancestors" in terms of shape. The puzzle looks like it the dodecahedron and icosahedron and fused into one puzzle. Or just like you can create the dodecahedron or icosahedron by extending the icosidodecahedron you can extended the shapes in the middle to create this puzzle.
The inventor built this puzzle after Andreas Nortmann told him about the idea. He wanted to complete the set for his collection.
