The Bump Cube is a simple 3x3x3 Rubik's cube, but with an interesting twist. It spawned a whole series of puzzles and created a verb of its own.
Invented by Hidetoshi Takeji, Bump Cube is a simple 3x3x3 Rubik's cube, but with an interesting twist. The centres are not centred, but justified to one corner. In doing so, each individual piece is a different shape. As all the cubies are stickered the same, you must solve by shape.
Hidetoshi-san met a speed-cuber at a competition in Osaka with interest in his cube. He lent it to him, who showed it to a project group. Rubik's and MegaHouse then mass produced the puzzle starting in autumn of 2008. That mass produced version was named "Rubik's Mirror Blocks".
The handmade version attended the design competition during IPP26 in 2006.
Since then an endless series of puzzles named "Bump ..." appeared on the forum. "Bumping" is today one of the most succesful methods to make a shape variant.
