My first puzzle of 2018

Watch a demo video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VXJjC9VsJI&t=

You can see the developing process here:

Thanks, cubeguy314, for the name :)

The puzzle is a pyraminx with disks that can turn 60 degree. This time I wanted to experiment with a stickerless design. Hope you enjoy it :)

man, the died plastic doesn't quite do the puzzle justice, I'd love to see the puzzle mass produced!

May I suggest Chewie Stickers for custom tiles. I'm using them on my latest puzzle as seen here. I got the idea after seeing this thread and Shapeways had already refused to print and dye the tile assembly I had constructed saying it was too fragile. In hindsight I am glad Shapeways refused to print the tiles as I couldn't be happier with these from Chewie. They are FDM printed in ABS and he has a nice selection of very bright and vibrant colors.

I can say this is a gorgeous and carefully thought puzzle. I'm glad you finally made it! Although I must also say that I agree with Karl, Chewie's options may give you exactly what you're looking for, given SLS-printing services cannot dye those pieces for you (or if they do, not at a reasonable price, for sure).

Well done, man!

This seems like a puzzle very likely to be mass produce. I'm looking forward to that day coming!

Thanks guys. I agree this should be mass produced.
It seems nobody likes the sticketless look but it was almost the only option as the small triangles are 2 mm long. Also it will need a lot of stickers/tiles serving no real purpose( on the sides of cylinders for example).
Well I have to try stickers for the next and compare :)

Jiroscop, I do really like the tiled look, it's just a shame that apart from the blue and yellow the other two colors didn't come out as vibrant. Perhaps those custom tiles from Chewie can bring this already beautiful puzzle to it's apotheosis. Just my two cents.

EDIT: Maybe someone can show an example of a puzzle with these custom tiles?

I dunno how well ABS and nylon go together, but you could potentially ask Chewie to print the circles and tiles in nice vibrant ABS instead... not sure if 2 plastics in one puzzle have any negative effects

The sides of the cylinders could be left un-stickered if so desired and I believe a 2mm cap for that triangle is possible in ABS. It is also possible that the circles pieces could be 3D printed in ABS without any changes needed. I'm not certain what the foot on that small triangle looks like. If the foot of that part is too small you could use an ABS cap on a nylon SLS foot and then simply have the larger parts printed in colored ABS and that too would produce the same look you were trying for here.

Thanks guys. I don't think I want to deal with FDM printed parts anymore. Let alone so small and complex. Maybe its not too late to dye everything black and order stickers?

What changed your mind? I just saw this:

I think it looks great. Do you have a video of the FDM version?
